Studio By House or That Toronto Studio? Which is better?

Comparing Studio by Peter House to That Toronto Studio

Studio By House compared to That Toronto Studio.

Which is better? Well, it depends on who you ask. Asking an authority is key! The staff at That Toronto Studio have a ton of respect for Peter House and his studios! Studio by House is definitely an awesome studio worth checking out, and Peter himself is an awesome host with a great sense of humour. In fact, before we started That Toronto Studio, we used to rent over at Peter House studios and loved every moment!

And with that, let’s jump into it…

Convenience of Location

Winner: That Toronto Studio

That Toronto Studio is located in a prime spot, close to highways just like Peter House’s studio, but with the added convenience of being super easily accessible by public transit TTC. The bus literally stops right in front of 260 Carlaw Avenue, of which That Toronto Studio is Unit #202A; an easy to find unit and right in the heart of Toronto’s east-end studio district. An Uber ride from Yonge & Dundas to Dundas & Carlaw where That Toronto Studio is located is a nominal $10, or a $3 streetcar ride across Queen street!

Pricing and Packages

Winner: tie

Prices between the studios are nearly identical, which is why we’ve drawn a tie. With regards to location however, given the convenience and ease of access to That Toronto Studio, we would say that That Toronto Studio has a better value considering that it is located inside of Toronto, where as Studio by House is located in Mississauga, a fair commute away which can be burdened during high traffic hours.

Schedule; Available Booking Times

Winner: That Toronto Studio

That Toronto Studio is available for booking, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year… ok you get it!

But to add to that, not only is That Toronto Studio a 24/7 studio, its schedule available for instant-booking is from 6am to 9pm, that’s an extra hour a day that you can book the studio for your production compared to Studio by House.

After 9pm and until 6am the next morning, That Toronto Studio bills studio time at a premium for “night time” bookings, so all bookings for night time should be inquired about via email or call.

Intricacy of Decor

Winner: Studio by House

Now let’s explore the intricacy of the design inside both studios. Both studios are custom-designed, built, and remodelled constantly by their founders.

That Toronto Studio’s interior design is by far superior to most of the photography studios available for rental in Toronto, but Peter House takes his design to a next level.

We joke that Peter House must have been a carpenter for royalty in a past life because the intricacy of his carpentry, painting, and overall build is far beyond what any other studio owner is capable of. Good job Peter! Daniel (That Toronto Studio’s founder) has some learning to do from you!

Privacy; Are The Studios Shared?

Winner: tie, neither studio is shared (and this is a very good thing)

Unlike other photography studio rentals in Toronto, neither That Toronto Studio, nor Studio by House pack multiple renters into the same space at the same time.

Both studios offer you full privacy during your rental, not having to worry that another renter in the next room will be making noise or overhearing your conversation. This has been a consistently reoccurring problem amongst other studios, but never an issue at Peter House’s studio, nor at That Toronto Studio.

Accessibility to Service & Quality

Winner: That Toronto Studio, by a landslide

Although we love Peter, founder of Studio by House, whenever we have tried to reach the studio by phone it’s been difficult! Peter states that the best way to reach him is by email, since like a boss, he prefers to work undisturbed by the constant distractions of life.

Daniel loves the idea of this kind of work ethic, but his priority is to his customers. Basically, whenever they have a question, he’s there to answer it immediately if you call, or if it’s less urgent and you decide you want to text or email, then expect your response to take ever so slightly longer.

While we do not know exactly how far Peter House is willing to go for his clients during their rental, we can say that Daniel Camer goes to the very edge of the world for his clients to make himself available to answer questions, help out, troubleshoot and problem-solve whenever circumstances requiring his assistance do arise.

At That Toronto Studio, Daniel’s not just your host, he’s your problem-solver.

So which studio is better?

Well, we’re definitely biased towards That Toronto Studio for all the reasons above, but we think you should rent both studios and decide for yourself!
